The owner of this high performing VALERO unit is an experienced retailer who owns and operates three other stations each of which flies a flag other than VALERO at this time.
This Baldwin Park site was chosen to "test out" the VALERO brand. Formerly an ARCO branded unit, the fuel sales rose to more than double the previous level in just 6 months. Recognizing the quick and continuing acceptance of the VALERO brand, he invested an additional $250,000 to convert the 2 service bays into a
C-Store. The store opened at $1500 / day and is expected to ramp up rapidly then level out at about $2500 daily within its first year.

4VQP Consultant Jack Muellerleile sought out and interviewed the owner of the above unit as part of his recently begun 'information gathering campaign' about VALERO. As documented elsewhere in this website, industry observers are noting unusual activities that signal VALERO may be readying itself to make a major move downstream at the wholesale and retail levels. If it resembles the move ARCO made in California during the 1970s, everyone associated with VALERO (dealers, distributors & shareholders) may benefit greatly. As always, the "Out in Front" bunch of retailers climbing aboard early will stand to benefit more than those sticking with a "Wait and See" attitude. Some will wait so long that a nearby unit adding the VALERO flag may prevent its approval for the less opportunistic foot-draggers.
